IIHF World Championship 2027: Germany in May

Germany hosts the 2027 men's World Championship from 13 to 30 May 2027. Sixteen teams are split into two groups, each played in a different city. Düsseldorf's PSD Bank Dome hosts one group and Mannheim's SAP Arena the other, with the opening game on 13 May between Germany and Switzerland at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

IIHF World Championship 2027 groups

• Group A, Mannheim: Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Latvia, Austria, Slovenia, Ukraine.
• Group B, Düsseldorf: Canada, USA, Czechia, Slovakia, Denmark, Norway, Kazakhstan, Hungary.

The 2026 champion was Finland, who beat Switzerland 1-0 in overtime in the final. Germany's tournament will therefore start with a defending champion in the field and a host nation that has strong hopes. See our dedicated page for the 2027 World Championship for more detail on venues and travel.

IIHF World Juniors 2027: Edmonton and Red Deer

The World Junior Championship is the best-known youth event of the IIHF calendar. The 2027 edition is hosted in Alberta, Canada, and runs over the New Year period from 26 December 2026 to 5 January 2027. Edmonton's Rogers Place and Red Deer host the games.

World Juniors 2027 groups and teams

• Edmonton group: Czechia, Canada, Switzerland, Latvia, Norway.
• Red Deer group: Sweden, Finland, USA, Slovakia, Germany.

Organisers may still swap two teams between venues, so check before booking a specific game. The 2026 tournament in Saint Paul and Minneapolis was won by Sweden, 4-2 against Czechia in the final.

IIHF Tournaments 2028: France Hosts the World Championship

France will host the men's World Championship from 12 to 28 May 2028 in Paris at the Accor Arena and in Lyon at the LDLC Arena. For French fans it is a chance to see the world's top national teams at home. Ticketing details are not announced yet.

World Championship 2028 dates and cities

Paris and Lyon are connected by high-speed rail, which makes it practical to see games in both cities. Approximate capacities are around 15,000 for Paris and 12,500 for Lyon, so demand will be strong for the best fixtures. We will announce ticket dates when the organisers do.

What comes before: the World Cup of Hockey

Before the 2028 World Championship, the World Cup of Hockey is scheduled for February 2028, with games in Calgary, Edmonton and Prague and eight teams. It is not an IIHF Championship but is a major international event.

IIHF Tournaments 2027 Tickets: How and When to Buy

Ticket sales for IIHF events normally go through the tournament's official box office, often in phases that start with a presale or packages and continue to individual game sales. None of the 2027 sale dates is announced in our data, so we cannot give exact timings.

Buying IIHF tournaments 2027 tickets from abroad

For the World Championship in Germany, buyers from outside the country should check that the official box office accepts international cards and that tickets are delivered digitally. For the World Juniors, tickets for the final days sell fastest. Beware of unofficial sellers, and use resale marketplaces only after checking transfer rules.

Combining IIHF tournaments dates with a trip

The World Juniors fit with the New Year holiday. The World Championship in May is easier to combine with a city break in Düsseldorf, Mannheim or the Rhine-Ruhr area, and it comes at a time when weather is mild.

IIHF Tournaments 2027: Recent Results and Context

A short recap helps set expectations. The men's World Championship 2026 in Switzerland was won by Finland, with Switzerland second and Norway third. At the 2026 Olympic Games, the United States won both the men's and women's gold medals, each time beating Canada in overtime. Finland took men's bronze and Switzerland women's bronze.

What the results mean for the 2027 tournaments

Strong recent results for Finland and the host Switzerland suggest tough competition in Group A in Mannheim, while Group B in Düsseldorf includes Canada, the USA and Czechia. As ever in tournament hockey, form on the day and the availability of players decide results, and rosters are only confirmed shortly before each event.

IIHF Tournaments 2027: Time Zones, Travel and Planning

Two very different trips sit behind these tournaments. For the World Championship in Germany, most European fans can travel by train or short flight, and the host cities are well connected. For the World Juniors in Alberta, travellers from Europe face a long journey and an eight-hour time difference, so plan at least a day to adjust.

IIHF tournaments 2027 dates and travel for the World Juniors

Edmonton is a major NHL city with international flights, while Red Deer is a smaller city between Edmonton and Calgary reached by road. If your group plays in Red Deer, budget time for the drive in winter conditions. Late December and early January are cold in Alberta, so pack for deep winter.

IIHF tournaments 2027 tickets and hotel timing

Hotels in host cities fill early once the groups are known. Because the sale dates are not announced yet, aim for flexible bookings and avoid prepaying everything. For the German events, remember that other large events in Düsseldorf can also push up demand.

IIHF Tournaments 2027: Which Event Should You Choose?

If you want elite men's national-team hockey with a festival atmosphere, choose the World Championship in Germany. If you prefer to follow the next generation and don't mind winter, the World Juniors are the better option. Each has a different pace: the Worlds has a long group stage with fans from many countries, while the World Juniors compress games into a short, intense run.

Ticket planning for IIHF tournaments 2027

Whichever you choose, the same rule applies: use the official box office, keep your options open until dates and sale windows are published, and sign up for an alert so that you are among the first to know. This is especially important for knockout and final days, which sell out first.
