NHL Tickets 2026-27: Season Overview, Divisions and Key Games
NHL tickets 2026-27 cover the first 84-game season, with 1,344 regular-season games between 29 September 2026 and 10 April 2027. This hub explains how the season is built, how the divisions work, which special events stand out, and how to choose the right game and city for your trip.
NHL tickets 2026-27: the season in numbers
The National Hockey League is the world's top professional ice hockey competition, and its 2026-27 season has one major novelty: every team now plays 84 regular-season games instead of 82. That adds up to 1,344 games across 32 teams. The regular season opens on 29 September 2026 and closes on 10 April 2027, so there is a window of more than six months in which to catch a game.
NHL tickets: what is confirmed
- Season start: 29 September 2026.
- Season end: 10 April 2027.

Last June, Carolina beat Vegas four games to two to win the 2026 Stanley Cup, so the Hurricanes will raise their banner on opening night at Lenovo Center.
Opening night NHL games and tickets
Opening night on 29 September 2026 features five games. Carolina hosts Florida in the early evening, Toronto and Montréal meet at Scotiabank Arena, Boston hosts the Rangers at TD Garden, Edmonton welcomes Vancouver at Rogers Place and Vegas hosts Chicago at T-Mobile Arena. For fans who like big atmospheres, this is one of the best NHL tickets of the autumn.
How the NHL schedule and divisions are organised
The league is split into two conferences, each with two divisions. Understanding the layout helps you spot the best rivalries, because teams play their division opponents more often than anyone else.
Eastern Conference NHL teams: Atlantic and Metropolitan
The Atlantic Division has eight clubs: Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Florida, Montréal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Toronto. The Metropolitan Division also has eight: Carolina, Columbus, New Jersey, the New York Islanders, the New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington. This is the densest part of the map, so it is the easiest region for a multi-game trip by train or short flight.
Western Conference NHL teams: Central and Pacific
The Central Division has Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis, Utah and Winnipeg. The Pacific Division has Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver and Vegas. Distances are greater out west, but the Canadian Pacific cities and the California clubs make a rewarding combination. Our NHL teams page lists every club with its arena.
Home games and match-ups for NHL tickets
Each team plays 42 home games, so there is a home date for every club in nearly every week of the season. Divisional games tend to carry more edge, and rivalries such as Montréal and Toronto, or the Rangers and Islanders, usually attract the strongest crowds.
NHL tickets 2026-27: outdoor games and special events
Beyond the regular schedule, the season has a handful of events that deserve their own planning. These are the games that sell out first and the ones most worth building a trip around.
Heritage Classic, Winter Classic and Stadium Series tickets
- Heritage Classic: 25 October 2026, Winnipeg against Montréal, at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.
- Winter Classic: 31 December 2026, Utah Mammoth against Colorado, at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.
- Stadium Series: 20 February 2027, Dallas against Vegas, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Outdoor games depend on weather, so wrap up warmly if the forecast is cold, and book flexible travel where you can.
Global Series NHL tickets in Europe
The league returns to Europe in autumn 2026. In Helsinki, at Veikkaus Arena, Seattle host Carolina on 12 November 2026 and Carolina host Seattle on 14 November 2026. In DĂĽsseldorf, at PSD Bank Dome, Ottawa host Chicago on 18 December 2026 and Chicago host Ottawa on 20 December 2026. These are the most accessible NHL tickets for European supporters.
All-Star break dates
The 2027 All-Star event is hosted at UBS Arena in Elmont, home of the New York Islanders, in February 2027. There are no regular-season games from 4 to 7 February 2027, which is the All-Star break. The format is a 3-on-3 tournament with teams for Canada, Finland, Sweden, the USA and the rest of the world.
How to choose an NHL game: tickets, city and arena
With 32 teams and a long season, the question is rarely whether there is a game, but which one to pick. Four filters make the decision easy.
Choose by city for your NHL tickets
Start with where you want to travel. New York, Toronto, Boston and Chicago pair a game with a major city break, while smaller markets such as Buffalo, Winnipeg or Nashville often feel more intimate and are known for loud crowds. Some cities have two teams within reach: New York has the Rangers and the Islanders, and the Los Angeles and Anaheim arenas are about an hour apart.
Choose NHL tickets by rival and event
If you want intensity, look for derby nights and division rivals. If you want a spectacle, aim for the outdoor games or the Global Series. Our team pages highlight the rivals each club hosts and the home-game window.
Choose NHL tickets by day of the week
Weekend nights usually draw the biggest crowds, while Tuesday to Thursday games can be calmer and more relaxed. If you are travelling from Europe, check the schedule page for tips on weekdays and time differences.
Buying NHL tickets from Europe
Planning from overseas takes a little preparation, but it is straightforward once you know the order of steps.
NHL ticket on-sales and the official box office
Start with the official box office of the team you want to see. Regular-season games are generally released before the season starts, and demand is highest for weekends, rivals and the outdoor games. We do not publish an on-sale date until it is confirmed, but our email alert will tell you the moment it is.
Resale marketplaces and safe NHL tickets
If a game is sold out, resale marketplaces are an alternative. Compare the seat location, check how the ticket will be delivered and read the buyer protection terms. Avoid any seller who wants payment outside the platform.
Planning the trip around your NHL tickets
Buy tickets first, then book flights and hotels. Arrive the day before if you can, because games often end late and many arenas are downtown, within easy reach of hotels. Remember that Canadian cities usually require a passport and a valid entry authorisation, while US travel has its own entry rules, so check your documents well in advance.
NHL tickets 2027-28: what comes next
Nothing is announced for the 2027-28 season yet: no schedule, no Winter Classic, no All-Star and no Global Series. The league generally publishes its schedule in the summer. In February 2028 the World Cup of Hockey is planned for Calgary, Edmonton and Prague, and Calgary is expected to open Scotia Place around then. Our 2027-28 page keeps these notes up to date and clearly flags what is unconfirmed.
